Scan folder cleaning, part 1

I guess you can kind of call this me jumping on another Blog Bat Around. Only in the sense that someone started it and I saw a couple other blogs that followed. If I am correct, Shane from Shoebox Legends did the first post of images that never made it onto the blog in 2019. And I at times have done that very thing - scanned something that fails to appear in a post. Difference is: I just delete the thing. I've long forgotten my intention for the image (more than likely a lame joke), so Shift+Delete and away it goes forever.

Destroyed by the Beast.
However, I do have scans that I haven't delete, for they are from packages received that never were shown here. I would like to claim they are all from sometime in 2019, but I am fairly certain there will unfortunately be cards from this series of posts that showed up in the offices of 2 by 3 Heroes in 2018. And that's wrong on a lot of levels. Punishments will be dealt out.

Let's get this over with, pig.
Let's get a few folders deleted for the right reasons. First up is John from Johnny's Trading Spot. According to the note I left, these cards are from a mailing he called Christmas in May. I do hope it was May 2019, but it may have been longer. Anyhow....

Some relevant at this time of year Star Wars cards. I only have been working on the ANH Topps sets. I might pick up the ESB and ROTJ sets in the future, but I'll just buy those complete sets. And even that is a maybe. I like the ANH sets cuz I have fond memories of the wax packs. I think I opened just a couple packs of ESB and zero ROTJ.

Handful of Sox in his mailing. Not sure what is up with that Select checklist logo. It looks weird.

But the bulk was bunting. Usually I will make note of how many of a particular binder card I receive, but I failed on this one. I have these three scanned...

And these, but I am certain there were more than 6 John sent. How about the rare bunt/throwback of Jose Cruz Jr on the left? Sheer beauty. Thanks John for that cards. Sorry it took me this long to thank you in public.

One other mailing, so I don't drag this post out too long, came from Night Owl. According to Windows, I created this folder on Jan 13, 2019. I really do suck.

I'm starting to think you do this cuz you like the punishment.

Nope. Not PC'ing Moncada. But a great handful of cards for the Sox box. The single color blue Fire does not look as good as it's base counterpart at the lower right.

Shocking to see the N.O. actually sending OUT a '75 homage card. Did any other company go as hog wild for holograms in the 90's?

YUM!!!!! Houston needs to bring back those unis as throwbacks. And a close look at Foli - those are the wool flannel version, which in my opinion are FAR nicer than the double knit polyester they switched to on '73. Thanks Greg.

So that makes two folders of scans I can delete and..... 6 remaining, plus like 5 stacks on the desk I need to scan. So that's makes:

Getting in under the gun

Ok. The whole plan was to get back to blogging a month ago. And the astute readers will notice that didn't happen. Not from a lack of trying, though a lack of desire definitely played a part.

So where have I been in the past......while. I don't even feel like doing the math to see when my posting really dropped to nothing. 7 months? Probably more. I've thought about how to address my time away, but in the end I determined the reasons don't matter much. It'd be a long chain of words that no one really wants to read. I'm not saying you whom have read to this point don't care, but my life is boring. Trust me - relating been going on in so unexciting a freshly painted bench want to go elsewhere.

Please sit on me.
I'll give you a one sentence rundown of where I was over this past time: no longer working from home, so 3+ hours of commute each day along with Uber driving burnout, daughter's wedding (401k loan thank goodness) and general malaise of life.

And we're done. Told you - boring. You were warned.

In all the free time I have mostly been playing video games because it's easy numbing of the brain after traffic to a shitty job and worse traffic home. Being creative was not on the agenda. But I wanted to get back because so much was received from so many and people we never given a proper due, and I have had ideas I should put in motion if only that I know I did said idea. Thankfully, mailings have stopped, and I cannot be more grateful that you all have lost my address. Reciprocation has recently started up again, and I owe many. Yes - OWE. Just deal with that word. Still a lot of mailing left, so if you were thinking of sending me something, please don't. Not at this time.

I don't want to drag on the start of this first post in forever, so I think that is all I want to say about my time away.....

Hey....remember me?
Oh yeah...... my future wife says hi. Anyhow, I have many cards I've received scanned and posts of them planned, but let's show a few recent pickups here. Nothing great or amazing, but stuff I like. All cards were ebay purchases sometime after my last real post.

Couple autographs of non White Sox, but technically, each one has a White Sox connection. Phil Humber won't be making the HOF ever, but he is one of 23 players to throw a perfect game. He fits into three binder pages where I plan to collects autographs of the perfect game pitchers. A few probably will never appear in there (Cy Young and Sandy Koufax come to mind), but who knows. Now Jamie Burke had a few cups of coffee in the bigs (191 total games in 8 years). He crossed the base paths for 64 total games on the South Side, with a single game in his last year with the Sox. That year, though, was 2005, which makes Mr. Burke a member of Project 2005. Best I can tell, this is the only certified autograph he has in the hobby, so he goes into the 9 pocket as a Mariner.

I am fairly certain these three player collection cards were a buck or less. Bowman had some crazy inserts in the early 2000's. Hard to tell from the scan, but the Petrick is the international edition of his card. 2009 Goodwin is the BEST year of Goodwin. Fight me.

Last is this relic card I snipped for under $10. First relic card of a Black Sox player, Lefty lost games 2, 5 and 8 (was a best of 9 back then), being one of only two pitchers in history to lose 3 games in a single World Series. I'd love to obtain cards from all 8 members of the Black Sox issued during their playing days. Maybe after I score that Cy Young autograph......

I've blabbed enough. Thanks for reading. I'll do my best to get a couple posts a week. At the very least Throwback Thursday should have continued, but I suck and failed to do that. With luck I will suck less in 2020.

Let's light this bottle rocket again!

BBA: what I do when I play with my cards

So how about I jump in on the latest Blog Bat Around, since I snagged the graphic

Night Owl posted about the projects he is working on, and then someone followed suit and now it's a bat around. Since I really have nothing to post (except for a dozen or so packages to scan/sort/write about), let's make it a little easier and write off the top of my head and talk about what goes on around here.

project zero: downloading images of Kate Upton
Project 1: White Sox

Mini, full, oversized, foil, refractor - don't matter. If it's a White Sox card, I want it. I should really keep track of the number of unique cards I have in the Sox box and other binders. One day when I have all the time in the world, I'll work on building a database of the cards. I am jealous of those of you that know the exact number of cards you have for your team collections.

Project 2: Blackhawks

Ditto as with the White Sox. Granted, this is currently small and barely filling a two row shoebox. In time....

Project 3: Player Collections

You can see the older players I collect on the Player Project link above. Along with Luis and Sherm here, my other current old timer projects include Nellie Fox and Bob Keegan (who is not on that list). I pick up other cheap vintage of players that were Sox as well, like Wilbur Wood, Dick Donovan, Turk Lown, Gary Peters, etc. Those may morph into other projects in the future. For current players, I mention them on my Want list: Paul Konerko, Aaron Rowand, Joe Crede, Adam Eaton, Ben Petrick and Tadahito Iguchi.

Project 3: Custom collections

I have a few unique collections: cards showing players in either a throwback uniform, making the turn at second of a double play, or in the act of bunting (in game or posed). I don't know if I ever explained why the three specialized collections, so...

Throwbacks - I have always been a fan of classic uniforms. Some are far better than others, but when a team visits an earlier look for them, it's a treat for the eyes. I like the White Sox are considered the team that brought the idea of a throwback uniform.

Double Play - When I started playing baseball, I played 3rd and pitched as a 9 and 10 year old. When I moved up, I was moved to center because the coach felt I had the most speed and range of anyone on the team. I spent the two seasons at that level in center, until the final game of my 2nd year. That game, the coach decided to have some fun with us and put players in positions they never played. I can remember the first inning of that game. If ESPN existed back then, all three outs of that first inning would have been on Top 10. First one was a quickly dropping pop up that the kid in left, who never played that position until that day, made a nice diving catch to snag. Next batter ripped a hot grounded down the 3rd base line. Another first time player at the position falls to snap up the rocket and throw the runner out at first. Final out of the inning, the batter shoots one just out of reach of the pitcher, heading up the middle. Me, first game ever at 2nd, ranges right, deftly backhands the big hop, put on my brakes and turn to throw out the runner. As we return to the dugout, the coach wonders why he never played us in those positions during the season. Drafted up to the next league, the coach who selected me stated I would be moving from center to 2nd. I asked if it was because of that play the previous year. "No", he replied. "You have no arm and it's the shortest throw in the game". Needless to say, for those 2 years, I sort of revolutionized the position in the league. Things I did on the field started to reflect in other teams at the position, and I was the starting second base all star both seasons I played. I think 2nd was the position I should have played my whole life. So anytime I see the turn at two, I always think of my "career" as a ball player.

Bunting - I like small ball. Sure, home runs are nice, but manufacturing runs is the way the game is to be played. I always took pride in my ability to lay down a good bunt, with the right speed and placement to get the job done, whether advancing a runner or catching the other team off guard to steal an infield hit. But the real joy of bunting goes back to that final game of the season I mentioned above. In one inning of that game, since we are all goofing off, we had some fun. Coach had the first guy bunt, since they were playing off the grass at third. Since the 3rd baseman didn't get the hit, the next guy also got the bunt sign and both runners beat out any throw. I was up third. No signal from the coach's box, but danged if the guy on the hot corner was still way too far back, so I laid one down and the bags were loaded. And the batter behind me - sure, why not. He also bunted. Run scored - bases still loaded. I am fairly certain batter #5 swung away, but four players bunting in a row, only two that actually received a bunt sign - that sticks with you.

Project 4: sets

The sets I build depends on how much I like the look of the cards. I know people bemoan Gypsy Queen, but I like it year and year. Especially 2015 GQ. Yes , I love 2015 Gypsy Queen. And I love Allen and Ginter, too. Other sets all depend how I feel about them. Maybe the full set. Maybe an insert set only. But I like to buy the cards to have them in my hand before I decide if I will construct the entire thing.

Project 5: Vintage set - 1964

I am still trying to complete the 2013 Heritage (damn inserts and SPs), but decided to take a crack at my first vintage build with the original 1964. I was having a good go, but then ran into a snag - financially and figuratively. Condition doesn't matter to me, but the seller I was snagging decent cards at a great price dried up, so now I am still trying to build on the cheap, but it's a grind. My plan for 2018 is to get focused back on the build and hope to be past the 85% mark. We shall see.

Project 6: Frankensets

I have two frankenset builds in progress: buyback and White Sox. I am much farther on the White Sox build, but it's getting tough finding cards for the missing holes. I am about 100 cards or so away from a run thru card 700. I have cards here and there above it, so maybe I run it higher? Maybe I should cut it off lower? The buyback set - slow go. Same finances issue as the '64 build. I am at 140 cards or so. It's not even in a binder it's such a pathetic looking build. Maybe when I crack 250 I'll start filling pages.

Project 7: 2005 Project

This is fairly simple to explain. It is just collecting the autograph of every player and coach from the Sox 2005 World Series team. I need to get some TTMs out for a few of the players that I know where they are and hopefully they will return. My big need is Man Soo Lee. He was the bull pen catcher for the team. Digging around, the last article I remember supposedly stated Mr Lee was an executive with the KBO. I just searched now and I see he carried the torch for the past Olympics. Otherwise, I a stumped trying to get a cards signed by him. If anyone has an inside track of his autograph on a 2.5x3.5 piece of cardboard, let's talk.

Project 8: secret

Yup - I am intentionally teasing something. It's not really awesome, but nothing I want to reveal right now.

And I think that's really about all. Anything else I collect really just falls into my lap, like autographs and relics.

Aren't you glad you read to the very end? Was it worth it?

How about now?

Tis The Sea....er...Valentine's Day? Let's talk

I'm back. Before I get too far into this post, for those that are aware, this is my giveaway of doubles from the 2017 purchasing season. Before I get to that, though, I just want to talk. It's going to be long and rambling, and I'm fine if you don't want to read it. I'm not looking for pity or sympathy - just a bit of "where I am at" and "where is 2x3 Heroes at/going". If you want to just get to claiming cards, scroll down to Kath Upton. I'll start the giveaway there.

So let's talk. No big whoop.
If you are scoring at home, I had one post in December and nothing in January. And the December post was in reference to what is essentially this post, that is technically 6-7 weeks late. So what's going on? No desire? No time? Bad things? Good things? I little of all of those really. And this is not me claiming my issues are any worse than yours. They aren't, is your eyes, and they shouldn't be. What I struggle and stress about are nothing to what you deal with. I can look upon your strife and think "I could handle that", but only because I am emotionally removed from the issues. When you factor in your love and caring of the people and things you are worried about and working to correct, the emotional investment factors in to your decisions and actions. So I am not looking for a pity party or fishing for some empathetic words, I am just being transparent. It helps me.

For starters, our daughter is back home. She is living in our basement (planned) with her fiance. He finished school, but only because he got sick of the BS from the school, claiming yet again he is X number of credit hours short of this degree. It's been something they have been jacking on him over the past couple semesters and he's sick of it. And speaking of sick, my daughter is dealing with "something". We don't know what, but massive chest pains on a daily basis are crippling her from anything. ER docs have no clue. Family doc has no clue. Pulmonary doc referred to an ENT doc. GI doc still wants to run a camera down her esophagus to check things. We just know it's super painful and super shitty. She is fighting through it, but anyone with kids knows that totally powerless feeling only a parent can have. They came back home Dec 30, which was 4 months earlier than they planned. Needless to say, the basement is not ready for them, but we are working to get the walls and drywall hung, and I need to find a plumber to help me rough in a bathroom down there.

In other health, wife is ok. PD is progressing as it does. Falling isn't often, but it happens. As a family, we have all avoided the flu, though the cough my daughter has from a cold is living hell with the chest pain issue. And my left arm feels like Ricky Vaughn's from all the basement construction and hauling of lumber, drywall and carpet (yeah - my wife found someone getting rid of fairly new carpet from a house they bought. I just had to take it out and haul it home).

Son is good in Denver. About 6 weeks back he called worried he was about to be unemployed. His boss up and disappeared under very weird circumstances. He basically announced he was leaving, but some of the things he said and did were odd. He was MIA for about 10 days. The foreman of the company talked to the owner's sister who was gracious (and wealthy) enough to cut a check from her own money to pay the workers and guaranteed pay through the end of the current jobs. The boss called the sis (no idea what was said) and went MIA again. A week later he showed up. Dead. Gun shot. Not sure if self inflected or homicide, but who knows. However, the late boss gave all the tools and the business to the foreman (worked together over a decade) and said "it's yours now". So strange, sad, scary and a bunch of other adjectives, but he's good, still employed and moving forward.

I still work from home and Uber far too much. But I have bills and other needs, and a family to support, so off I go. And that's all I have to say about that. I guess the over all fact we are all still here and surviving is the positive. Some days that is all you can hope for - getting up and getting moving.

Now, let me drop a complete paradox on you with this next statement: "I don't have a desire to blog, but not because I don't have a desire to blog". I am certain many of us have been there and may, or may not, realize that very statement. And others are going "whaaaaaat"? So let's explain. I want to blog. I have so damn many wonderful packages I have received, plus ideas in my head and a few cool pickups I would love to share. I want to get to them, but blogging is not first on my mind when I have free time. When the moment comes for me to have my time, I am mentally drained. Whether a tough day on the phones, or physically wiped from the basement or driving, I don't have the mindset to write. And that's important to me. I don't like half assing my writing. I take pride in being unique and crafting a post that has humor and can make you think (unlike this post to this point). And if I can't put out good quality, then I won't do it. So I wish to post, but my head is just not into it. I hope I described that well.

I will say that one post over two months is unacceptable. I need to do better. I am not shutting down, and I hope to not have another long hiatus, but I make no promises. I have failed the promises in the past, and will again in the future. So let me just do the best I can and hopefully things will go in the direction I wish. From my post views, a few of you seem to like what I do, and I greatly appreciate that. But, as I always say, I ultimately write for me. I think creativity keeps me mentally young and helps me in work and life by thinking in much broader concepts.

Then again, I might just be an idiot.

Hi - I'm Mrs. Idiot
For those that read - thanks. For those that skipped here, welcome. So as I do each year, I give away my dupes and unwanted cards from the past year. Sometimes I through in other piles of stuff too. I just want to make room for the 2018 buying season, and you benefit. Going to try something different this year, cuz I am always trying to shake things up. But mainly because of this:

What are those? They are actually two packages from LAST YEAR'S giveaway. Yup. Somehow they got buried in my shit and I just found them a couple months back. Packages to two Canadian readers. So Al and Kyle - you were not forgotten. Just misplaced. I promise these will be the first two packages going out. And by all means, if you see something you want this year, pick it.

And a quick 2nd side note to three bloggers: Kerry at Cards on Cards, Colby and Cardboard Collections and John at Johnny's Trading Spot, I have stacks of cards for you that will hit want lists, so if you pick something, I would go for a stack you don't have posted on your blog want lists. OR roll the dice - your choice.

Alright, so how will I avoid screwing up the mailing this year? Simple. Below I will list all the cards I have to give to you for free. You simply pick the stack you want. I listed each stack with the number of team bags I have filled with the cards. Each team bag is between 32-45 cards, so you get a rough idea of how many cards you get in that set(s). I will be shipping all cards in small Priority Mailer boxes. $6 or so each for domestic. You Canadian hosers will get first class or whatever I can do for the cheapest cost. The small mailer will be full, so what you have to do when you claim a stack is tell me what team (MLB or NHL) or teams you like. I will pad out the box with cards from any and all the teams you request so it's full and send it out. I figure I can mail out 4 boxes a week - that's $20. I can make that on a single airport Uber ride.

What it gives me is an exact mailing cost for each package. I can budget out the mailings. I can thin down my team stacks. And you get a crapload of free cards. I fail to see how this can even touch on a possible loss.

Well, for starters, you are involved, Jeff.
My hope is that every stack here is claimed. I really want to get these into your hands. Look at it this way - you get from 3-5 team bags of cards from the teams of your choice. That's something, right? Here's what we have:

1 - '17 Bowman/'17 Bunt/Panini Draft ('16 I think) - 4 bags
2 - '16 Bunt/'16 Archives - 4 bags
3 - random Wrestling (current and past couple years) - 3 bags
4 - random hockey/'16 UD hockey/'16 Archives - 3 bags
5 - random UD Goodwin - 3 bags
6 - '13 Golden Age - 3 bags
7 - '17 Gypsy Queen - 5 bags
8 - '16 Gypsy Queen - 5 bags
9 - '16 & '17 Heritage/'08 UD Goudey - 5 bags
10 - '17 UD hockey/'15 UD Champs - 5 bags
11 - random A&G - few earlier/mostly '16 and a fair amount of '17 - 5 bags
12 - '16 Topps Holiday/'16 Chrome/'17 Donruss - 4.5 bags
13 - random soccer - 3 bags
14 - '16 Topps - 3 bags
15 - '16 Topps - 3 bags (didn't want to dump 6 bags on one person, so I split to two giveaways)
16 - '16 & '17 Stadium Club - 4 bags
17 - '17 Topps/Opening Day/Chrome - 4 bags
18 - '15 Topps - 4.5 bags
19 - '15 UD Firefly: The 'Verse - 3 bags
20 - '15 UD Firefly: The 'Verse - 3 bags (see '16 Topps statement above)
21 - random Star Wars - 4 bags

So a total of 21 boxes for me to send out, along with the two from the middle of this post to Canada. Again, simply comment on which stack you want. And tell me what team or teams, MLB or NHL, you want me to pad the box with. If you are not 100% sure if I have your mailing address, send me an email with the subject "Tis The Season" to 2x3heroesATgmail. Include your selections in that email as well so I cam match them up.

That's pretty much all I got. I am going on vacation on Monday to see our son in Denver, so I will do my best to keep this post up to date. I will start mailing the weekend of Feb 23rd, and I will keep bugging about any cards that are not selected because someone should have these.

And let's just put up a simple scan of some recent pickups.

Three autographs. Yes, that Foulke is from the Achives Signature and is out of the case. Let's be real - keeping it sealed up will never increase it's price. Picked that up for $5 with shipping. The GQ Rodon in middle was just under $5 with shipping. And the Alomar set me back $6. Fine binder additions.

So comment away. I will get your selection to you before 2019.

Quick note: I heard this song on the radio today and it motivated me to get this post up. Music does have a big role in my life.

What I need

We all have needs - physical, emotional, financial, spiritual (for some), vocational, and on and on. I physically need relief for some lower back pain, but fortunately my acupuncture meets that. My wife does well with my emotional needs. I have WAY too many financial needs that barely make it each week, but we survive. I could use a new job, many because the stress of it keeps feeding all the other needs on this list. But for the most part, my needs are meet.

Didn't need this to happen, though...
But mostly what I need is rest and distraction, which I am taking today by staying home, playing a bit with my cards and writing a post. I also need to give some thanks to probably the people that I most need to send a mailer back, since I am easily two behind to each of them. I need to package up what I have and need to get to the mailbox. But until then, I need to post some scans.

Doug at Sportscards From The Dollar Store sent another package a while back. For as box as my Sox box(s) is, I need these cards in one way or another. I need to buy a box of this year's GQ, but I'll take your Sox if you need to get rid of them. I need ALL your Cracker Jack cards. The originals would be awesome, but the recent set is just fine. And Eaton cards are always needed, as most of my player collections has stalled with a need of money.

I need my Hawks to play a little better, though they had a nice 2 game shutout streak going. Then technically had a third in that streak, just that they were on the zero end of it. But Doug dropped what I think is a complete team set from this year's OPC release. I usually just grab a pack or two, but dang the design is really nice. I might need to build it.

One guy I really need to send cards to is GCRL Jim at Cards As I See Them. And he made sure to remind me with the note inside stating I owe him two. Jim is good people, as you see with the nice range of ChiSox, from a green border of Robinson, and bust in Valentine and a funky chrome of old Comiskey, which was names South Side Park at the time of the photo.

Specialty binder needs? Jim covered all, with multiple bunts, double plays and throwbacks.

Player collection needs too, though technically, I have all three of these. But the Post card was an upgrabe, the Diamond King goes into the Sox Box and the Pierce is a rescue that needed a loving home.

Real quick - a previous owner of that Fox Post card had his own needs, expressed on the back of the card.

Someone needed Spring Break. And spell check.

Last were over a dozen miscuts, including these sweet, sweet cards. I find humor that even though the Hall is miscut, it's accurate. He is on Cincinnati and does have the position of pitcher. I didn't think about the 75s, but is makes obvious sense the bottom of one color would be the top of another team's card. Super vintage miscuts?? Oh, do I need those.

Well, I'll stop here. Now I need to go to YouTube and find an appropriate video for the bottom of this post. I need to think...

My hockey fix

Anyone who watched the NHL playoffs these season saw the too quick exit of my Blackhawks. The Preds have been playing well. I think they caught us during a scoring drought, just as we passed them in the standings before the end of the season when they had a problem finding the twine. But the season ended fast and the papers were talking about blowing up the Hawks and this and that. I get it - it's what their job is. Stir the pot and come up with the craziest click bait possible.

YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT THIS BABY LOOKS LIKE TODAY!
Thankfully, I have DJ north of the border at Sportscards From The Dollar Store to help supply me with hockey. I don't buy enough, mostly because the releases are too expensive. And picking up any Blackhawks in a 250 mile radius will wear out your credit card.

Anyone remember PowerPlay? I picked up a few packs back in the day. Loved the idea. Storing them was a whole other issue (obviously). Paired up with a couple other pieces of junk wax. Konroyd works in the studio for TV broadcasts. You may remember Dave Christian in a far different sweater. Yup, along with Jack O'Callahan, we had a 2nd Miracle on Ice player in a Hawks sweater. Dave played 69 games to close out his NHL career, though he played a few more in the minors after leaving the Hawks.

This is the spot where I post cards that scan like total crap. Thanks Panini!

Three rookies. LeBlanc, Panarin and Dumont. Needless to say, one has been far better than the other two. Dumont did okay with the Sabres and Predators for a few seasons. LeBlanc is doing what he can playing in the German hockey league.

Once again, DJ surprised me with a couple hits. Hawkins is a player that is trying to make it to the bigs, but injuries seem to sideline him often. He is still toiling in AA ball. The Oduya is the 2nd manu-patch from the Championship Rings set dropped on me from Canada, the first being TVR.

Thanks again, DJ. I have to work on a return package, but to start I need cash. I need a trick for free stuff.

The 7 day challenge

So the new hot thing on the blogs is the 30 day challenge. Some day, I plan to just do a 30 post challenge, using the subjects on each day to talk about, so the image is stored to my computer. But today, I start my own 7 day challenge. It's really simple.

POST SEVEN DAYS IN A ROW!

Really, should that be so hard? I've got a lot of great cardboard here. Great to me at least. And some awesome stuff I have received from other bloggers. You think I could get in front of a keyboard and get some words on a computer screen. But here goes. At least 7 days in a row with a post. You can do this, Jeff.

"Put one foot in front of the other......"
Let's knock out three small mailers that added some great cards to my collection. First up, Jim from GCRL Cards As I See Them. I sent Jim cards from Tis The Season, and he responded in kind.

First up, a healthy stack of throwbacks. I really should get that 2003 Donruss set. The design is simple and the images are top notch. I know there are numerous throwback cards in Topps flagship this year. I have a big issue with the Cubs throwback seen on the Soler card. Hey - love that the Cubs honored their baby blue road uniforms.

Bunting were included. How nice is that Classic Clippings design?

One for the buy back set (and yes, it made it in). And two sweet miscuts. For the record, Bob Locker is sharing the card with the 1974 RBI Leaders (card #308). Bob is card #434.

Last is two White Sox vintage cards. Hoyt is needed in both the ChiSox team set and the '64 build. Into the team set this one goes. Mr Romano joined the Sox on Jan 20th of 1965, so some kid updated his card as needed. I'll find a spot in the binder to add Johnny to the Sox set. The manual update earns him a place. Thanks for the cards, Jim.

Oscar from All Trade Bait, All The Time sent over a stuffed PWE to celebrate the start of the season. I celebrate actually getting a White Sox card from Heritage, as the few packs I bought yielded none. Is it me, or will a slight breeze blow Thad's cap off his head?

I posted that my last trip to my LCS scored me the entire Series 1 Sox team set, but I was an Eaton short for the PC. Not any more. Green does not work on that Ventura card. At all. Maybe if there was more grass or something showing. Oscar - than you for the mailer.

PACKERS! I remember Corky from Pack War making a few custom sketches MST3K last year, and out of the kindness of his heart, he blessed me with a couple. LOVE THESE!!!! I soooooooo want to get them autographed by the MST3K stars. No way they are going in the mail, though. I'll have to stalk them and get the autos in person.

YOWZA!!!! Corky included a few cards of bikini clad Japanese women. I know there is a name for this type of card, but searches of Zippy and Raz's blogs (I have seen similar posted on each) came up blank. So a little help for the proper name?? Anyhow.....ummm.....yeah. If I had to pick, I go with the top right Yuki Yoshizawa, and not because of her pose. She's cute.

OH REALLY??????????
Ummm - made the the wife mad, there. Thanks for the cards Corky.

One down. Six to go.
