Running out the door

My wife wants me to do wife-y types of things with her today. I havem't posted in a couple days and really wanted to clear out a scan folder. Let's type quickly.

Marcus at all the way to the backstop sent me a thank you package for the Tis the Season card giveaway. No way I am going to turn down a nice group of colored border cards.

Nor a ton of Konerko cards. I have a TTM out to Paulie - I hope I get a return from him. Thanks Marcus!

I posted the miscuts I received from Matt at Once A Cub a few days back. Here's the rest of the first of two envelopes I need to post (I have to scan package #2). How does one get so damn many golds? I always get the crap players. Yes - in that line of reason, Clayton Kershaw would be considered "crap" because of the lack of a White Sox logo on his uniform.

I remember going into a dark room to shine a flashlight thru the back of the scratch game and score some of those gold stamped "winner" cards from '92 Topps. I never got a single ChiSox in any of the returns packages.

Well well well..... A needed autograph for my binder. Thanks as always, Matt.

Speaking of autos, Dion from Dion's IP Autos only has become a regular trade partner. I pull an auto, I email Dion, he sends me his updated trade list and we work out a deal. It's pretty simple to work with Dion, and he has a ton of great autos to pick from. Boots Day - I remember that card from my youth, so when I saw it on the sheet, it was an easy pick. And Hicks is an auto I definitely needed. Great pitcher for the Sox, and a shame when he passed away a couple years back. Sox fans really loved Hickey cuz he was just an average Joe that made it to the Bigs.

And now my wife is standing at the door tapping her foot.

Trade Me Tuesday #5

And we're back. After the one week hiatus for the anniversary drawing (cards are going out today for you two winners), let's post some more trade bait. First off, let's check out some spoils from TMT. Jeff from One Man's Junk (Wax) claimed two envelopes and in return, sent me these two cards.

That Fermin was on the most wanted commons - it's been replaced. And while the rules state no random Sox, I am cutting Jeff slack, cuz he nailed it with this Wynn card. It was missing from my collection. Do you peek in my windows at night? Thanks Jeff. Ok - let's show this week's, but first, the cut and paste of the rules...

Here's how this works. I will post 6-ish cards each Tuesday. If you would like them, first to claim in the comments takes them. The cost for the cards is 1 (one) card off my want lists. It could be a need from my general wants, my A&G wants or something that I don't have in my bunting, double play, throwback, miscut or broken bats binders. You can find the cards currently in those in my Zistle account. Any card not shown is a card I want. Hey - if you would like to send me something for one of my active (or inactive) Projects that I don't have, that would be lovely too. Random White Sox and/or Blackhawks cards, however, are not allowed.

I should change the wording one day just to mess with everyone. And being it's April 1st, I should mess with a TMT of a 6 pack of Mantle rookies. But I won't, instead, here's a sixer of UD.

Remember Starquest? I have a stack of them I am going to start sending out in PWEs. However, let's put some up and see if anyone wants them. Remember they came in different levels and backgrounds and everything. Now I know where Topps got it's idea for 623 different borders. Anywho, just retired Vlad is an '08 rare, Justin in an '09 turquoise common, back in the bigs Grady is an '08 rare, Ichiro is an '08 common, Manny is an '09 blue uncommon and that Reyes - it's an '08 ultra rare. That's a one per box level....even though we are talking retail.

Well, what did you expect?

If I have learned anything, it is "be careful what you ask for"? I can say, in my life, there are many times I wished I had shut my mouth, cuz you end up getting far more than you want, or need, in return for a simple request.

In baseball card collecting, though, asking and receiving is a pretty cool thing. I have made mention about my love of miscut cards. You, the readers, took this to heart and I have received quite a large amount of miscuts in the mail over the past 7-10 days.

First up is Mr. Dime Box himself, Nick. Nick and I just send packages back and forth. I am certain, of all my mailings, Nick has been the collector I have sent to the most. With Nick, it's really easy to find cards that fit into his collection. For you that are wondering what he likes, I made this chart to narrow down his binders.

It's pretty much that. He's easy to shop for. Nick said found that load of miscuts from his last card show in a dime box (shocking!) and thought I would like that (I did). But that was not all he sent.

A lot of throwbacks. I could have swore I had that gorgeous Peavy, and then I realized it was in my '08 set, so it was needed. You can see the ChiSox need to add the pants numbers to their now alternate uniforms. They are not an exact match to the softball tops.

My bunting binder has 'SPLODED with all the bunting cards I have received recently. Nice of Nick to give up a pitcher at the plate card. I am hoping it's a dupe.

A few double plays, with a rare multi exposure. Again, for Nick's collection, I hope it's a dupe.

And some great oddballs, WITH A HOYT. Nick - are my binders becoming offsite storage for your collection???? Thanks again, bro.

Jeff from One Man's (Junk) Wax dropped two PWEs on me over the week. The first had 11 micuts and the note "now I know what to do with these things". Yes - send them to meeeeeeeeeeee! That Cecil is unique, but you can't tell until I post the back of the card.

Perfectly (for the most part) centered. Did they print the back after the first cut and before the panels were split? Jeff's other PWE had the know "hope there is one or two you need" in an envelope with 36 early 80 Fleer.

I needed 29 of the 36, much better than the one or two desired return. Thanks Jeff.

Here's part of a couple packages from Matt at Once a Cub. If it wasn't for Nick, Matt would have the distinction of the most cards back and forth. Here's a group of 4 miscuts he sent. None of the edges match up, so I wonder where the true mates to each card ended up. There was a lot of other greatest with these cards, plus the other package from Matt, but those will be posted another day.

Remember, if you don't know what to do with a miscut card, I'll give it love. Otherwise, send it to Nick.

plus 6, minus 4

I have talked in the past about the greatness of a PWE of cards. Another amazing package of 6 cards showed up the other day, and what those 6 accomplished is quite incredible. Dennis from Too Many Verlanders (or do you visit Too Many Manninghams) dropped 6 cards on me at the start of this week.

Just your straight forward group of Allen and Ginter. But the addition of these six remove four lists from my A&G needs. The three 2011 at the top finish the base with SP set of 2011. The Reyes was the last card I needed to finish the base with SP for 2008. Centaur completes "One Little Corner" and the Bastille is the last card needed for the "Palaces & Strongholds" insert set. I had all these in my shopping cart at Sportlots but haven't pulled the trigger on the purchase. I've since replaced them in my list.

BOOM!!!

There are constants in the world. Good always triumphs over evil. The McRib comes back every few months. The flow of the seasons in Chicago (winter, winter, construction, winter). The Cubs will disappoint again (look - it's been been 105 years. I guess everyone can have a bad century, right?).

One constant in blogland is the ritual of being bombed by Wes at Jaybarkerfan's Junk. I like to consider myself generous, and then Wes does what Wes does, and I end up looking like a hoarder. A week back...

Ow.

...Wes dropped a small USPS box stuffed with White Sox. You can really jam those things full of cards if you tape closed the overstuffed team bags. Just when I thought I was close to getting all my ChiSox sorted, this box arrived. Though, in the long run, the timing was perfect. Since I was in cleanup/organize mode, I just shifted to the bags and got them all put away. Had to do some scanning, however, so I choose the best three from each bag.

Got a few Flair from Nachos Grande's recent box breaks. But not from this particular year for the Thomas. Durham is a dupe, but only by team set standards. He is a great bunting binder addition. And the Fleer? You cannot tell, but that is a glossy card from the full set boxes.

Iguchi throwback, but it goes into the player binder. Nice Fleer Metal of current manager Ventura I freed from the protective cover. And a chrome of Big Hurt. For the record, I think on of the bags would have filled with all the Thomas cards Wes sent.

More Frank. Skybox this time. Love that parallel from Pinnacle. He included the base card. The foil looks just as cool in person. And Topps Laser. What can be said about Laser?

I love that image of Mark Johnson. Not much of a career, but he is the manager of the local single-A club for the Cubs. Chrome Thome - sweet. And a nice Crede futures card for the player collection.

Oddball city. Oh baby, that wave of the future is sweet. All raised and beautiful.

More Hostess as well as that great MooTown Snackers. Those two cards alone are making me hungry. Nice triple exposure from Donruss.

A new Star Sticker for my collection. Love these Victory cards. I still miss the vested unis from the Sox. Finally, an amazing shot of the Big Hurt launching another one into the stands. Look close and you can see the baseball right in the middle of his bat. That thing is about to feel pain.

Last bag. Nice purple refractor for the throwbacks binder. So 90's with Harold in the middle. Who doesn't love the horribly focused early Fleer releases?
