A contest, free cards and Star Wars

It's been dang near a week since I posted. It's been an interesting week to say. For starters, last Monday was my wife's last day of school. Summer break started for her, which is nice. She's a contract worker in the district, which isn't nice. She is only paid when she works, so here goes the 3 months of a single salary. On Tuesday, she had a surprise when my son and his friend walked in the door. My son lives in Denver, but on a whim they drove through the night to surprise us. He stayed for the rest of the week, ate the food his misses in the Mile High city, hung out with the friends he misses, and headed out yesterday morning back to his house. But my wife really appreciated the surprise.

Our neighbors had their woodwork and baseboard painted white, and it looks nice. So nice that my wife wants the same. Luckily, the friend that tooled back with my son does painting in Denver, so he helped start us out on the massive project. Massive because of the amount of wood and doors to paint, and also cuz it means now the walls need to be painted. Damn you neighbors. In all seriousness, it does look much better white than maple. It's a nice change.

My daughter wanted to see her brother, so we drove up to Green Bay on Friday as a sort of half way meeting place. She also needed a few dollars as her and her man are moving into a new apartment and don't have enough saved for security deposit and the like. Hey, it's what you do as a parent. But nice to see her, even though she was home for 6 days 2 weeks back.

Our car decided to take a crap. I am fairly certain the timing belt jumped some spokes. And we just got the title for it about a month ago. We were planning to get a new car anyway, but that was going to be mine. I guess not. I am not in the mood to drop another engine in the thing (yes, this has happened before - love Hondas, but the CRV engines suck), so this will be a donation or a junk yard sale. Just get it out the driveway. I'll trade it for anything off my baker's dozen, though you have to pay for the haul away.

And lastly, I went downstairs this morning to step on a wet carpet. My sump pump gave out from all the rain lately. It's the original from when we bought the house 17 year ago, so I think I got my money's worth out of it. Really nothing is ruined. Just have to rewash some clothes, so for once I didn't get a huge expense, beyond spending $120 on a sump and the parts to install it.

So there - that's kind of why I haven't posted in almost a week, for the 3 of you still awake and reading...

Thought by now he'd post an image of Kate Upton.
Anyhow, I still have a lot of hockey cards I want to give away. I have a nice list going, and I will drop more cards on those people that signed up. However, I have no one for the following teams:

Arizona Coyotes
Calgary Flames
Carolina Hurricanes
Chicago Blackhawks
Colorado Avalanche
Columbus Blue Jackets
Edmonton Oilers
Florida Panthers
Los Angeles Kings
Nashville Predators
New York Islanders
Vancouver Canucks
Winnipeg Jets

It's free cards, people. You owe me nothing in return. I have better plans for this 5k count box than teams I don't cheer for and sets I have no plans on completing. All you need to do is go to this thread and tell me the team you want. I'll keep dumping cards on you until I run out........then as I get more cards from my LCS pack wars or other packs, I'll send them over.

Next, I'm closing out the contest from my last post until today. I asked you to delve into my mind and figure out why I selected a specific YouTube video over other possible videos that reference "magic". The key to the answer was the photo in the post.

HIYA!
While there is no specific video of Wizzo being Wizzo, you can find a video of Marshll Brodien talking about being Wizzo, and in that, he does this:

While other magicians say abracadabra, or presto or a hundred other special chants, for Wizzo, it was "Do De Do De Do De Doooo". So you can see the match up with the Police song. Gavin, you were the only one n the right track, so I'm sending you the cards.

Ok. That's about all, so let's post a couple hits from Topps recent Empire Strikes Back Illustrated release. I have a few more cards for it on my want list if anyone has dupes. But I have done well for not buying a box.

One sketch card. All pencil, and it's pretty sweet in person.

And the blue printing plate from the Vader "One Year Earlier" subset. Quite pleased with that.

Ok - I gotta book. The wife wants to walk through some used car lots just to get a sense of what's out there. And it's hot as hell outside. I got better things to do.

  3. I have a feeling you'll be stuck with those Panthers for a while. Good luck to your boys tonight may the best team win.

  4. Man... can you imagine telling your friends about the time you traded the Honda CRV for a 2002 UD Jeff Kent #679?

    P.S. Sweet sketch card!
